GOOLWA BIANNUAL WOODEN BOAT FESTIVAL OUTING 2017
15 HAPPY SOULS and a pup named Nala descended on the festival on a beautiful autumn day in Goolwa, where we sauntered past a bewildering array of handmade boats, from tiny piston steam driven vessels, to magnificent homes on the water, resplendent with vibrant timberwork throughout.
Paddleboats are of course a significant presence on the River Murray, with the Mayflower and Oscar B taking tours for the public. Skilled mechanics, boat builders and tinkerers were all there, happy to answer our questions. All entrants had had their boats assessed, like a good photo, with winners evident in the many categories.
Photography was interesting with shifty light, portraits, boats, reflections, crowd scenes, but we all rose to the challenge! We were assisted physically by a group lunch, good coffees, and emotionally by a visit to art and photography in the gallery. Most club members were not seen for any length of time in the wine bars or whiskey distillery, because we just didn’t have time!!
